Reviews For Big Boy Restaurants International L L C Corporate Office

pist off ex worker 1/23/12
i have worked at 2 big boys in the last year and a half. i am personally disappointed in this restaurant and the way things are done. everything from the cooking process to the portions and the prices. they even have us lie about the way things are cooked (there is no broiler), most things there are cooked in a microwave (the entire thanks giving dinner, lemon pepper cod), but to me the worst of all is the child support that was court ordered and taken out of my check every two weeks was not sent to FOC, and when it was brought up to my GM and other management i was given the whole "ill talk to payroll on Friday" those Fridays came and went, and now i am left with a $4000.00 debt. i am one of those workers that puts his heart in his work and have fully established this is NOT the place to do so. if our paychecks bounce 75% of the time and our management is clueless and lie to you then there is no hope! i or my family will never set foot in a big boys again!

Please consider opening a "BOB'S BIG BOY" in Palmdale California. There is the perfect place for it on Palmdale Blvd off the 14 freeway, the old Carrow's building.

I'm impressed. You've really risaed the bar with that.

I went to the Turfway Rd. Florence, KY Big Boy today, and ordered a #2 platter - a Big Boy, fries and a drink. The cost was $6.54. I received what can best be described as a "Small Boy." Pathetically thin meat, stale bun, a handful of fries in an 8 oz. cup, and a 16 oz cup filled COMPLETELY TO THE BRIM, with ice. I've heard of the 70/30 rule, but I've never heard of the 100/0 rule. Literally 6 drinks from the straw later (I counted) and the beverage was empty. I took off the lid and the crushed ice still filled the entire cup to within a 1/2 inch of the rim. I took it inside the store and said - "Do you think my drink was cold enough?" and the manager looked me dead in the eye and replied "That's how we do it, fill it all the way with ice. You don't like it? Call corporate."

Now, I can go to McDonald's and order a McDoouble, fries and an $1.00 iced tea and I'll receive the same size sandwich, with more meat, a small fry and a 32 OZ drink for $3.18!!!! Why would I ever go to Big Boy again, and pay more than twice the amount for less food???

I AM TRULY DISAPPOINTED THAT THE ORGINAIL BIG BOY AT 21 AND VAN DYKE CLOSED, IT WAS AN ICON. I REMEMBER WHEN YOU HAD THE OUTISDE WAITRESSES, BUT THE CORPORATE OFFICES HAVE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILTIY FOR THAT RESTAURANT NOT DOING WELL. THE RESTARUANT WAS DIRTY MORE TIMES THAN NOT, AND IT NEEDED A NEW FACELIFT. I DO BELIEVE IF YOU WOULD HAD SPENT THE MONEY TO RENOVATE THAT THE CUSTOMERS WOULD RETURN. BIG BOY IS A NATIONAL ICON. WE NEED ON IN THE UTICA/SHELBY AREA. A CLEAN RESTAURANT WITH GOOD FOOD AND SERVICE. DON'T BECOME ANOTHER A & W AND GO AWAY OR LET BURGER KING AND MCDONALDS BE ON EVERY CORNER.

We were recently traveling through the State of Michigan from our home in Ontario with my disabled cousin. We stopped into the Saint Ignace Big Boy. It was a Sunday afternoon and the place was quite busy. Our server was very attentive and we enjoyed our meal. The cream of broccoli soup was amazing! When trying to pay our bill, our Debit card would not run through their cash register. It was a new Debit card and we were told by the cashier Joan that it would not read. She went to get the manager to see how the problem could be fixed. The manager was in the kitchen helping the cooks as they were quite busy. She (manager Judy) came out to see if she could fix the problem. I explained to her that we had just recieved this new Debit card and that in Canada there is a chip in our card.We had this problem when we stopped for fuel in Sault Sainte Marie, but used an ATM machine to withdraw cash from. After realizing that we could not pay our bill, manager Judy offered to take me to an ATM. She pulled her car around to the front of the building and picked me up,and drove me to the ATM across the street. I was able to then pay my bill. She went above and beyond the call of duty for customer service to help us with this unfortunate situation. We will definately be back!

Shocked! 11/6/11
Recently we stopped at the Big Boy in St Ignace, Michigan. We were heading downstate for a wedding. We usually stop in Mackinaw City, but heard that they were no longer open. All I can say is I cannot believe this restaurant is still open with the conditions we walked into! It was literally raining inside the restaurant! There were buckets and tin pans (I assume they re-use these pans for food after it stops raining), everywhere in the facility. The waitresses had to literally walk around these pans/buckets to bring food out to customers. The manager was sitting at one of the tables toward in front of the waitress station with a few employees eating and talking very loudly. When I commented on her behavior to our waitress, she shrugged it off, stating that the employees were no longer on the clock! When I asked if the manager was available to speak with she told me, as soon as she was done eating she would get her! Needless to say, the manager then disappeared shortly after she was done eating and socializing. The food was ok, our waitress was attentive, other than that, we will NEVER return! Disgusting.

i was recently in the saint ignace big boy and was so disappointed. i am from wisconsin and haven't eaten at a big boy restaurant in many years so was really excited to stop with my kids and enjoy lunch. well it wasn't very enjoyable! as soon as we walked in the door we were treated like we weren't important, it was busy but the hostess (and elderly lady) just seemed lost, made us wait for a table when there were tables open and when i said we could sit at any of the other tables that were open she stated "oh no i will get yelled at". so we waited for a table to be cleaned, after we were seated it took at least 8 to 10 minutes for our waitress to come and even get a drink order. she seemed very unhappy. my son ordered a root beer but the changed his mind and said he wanted a chocolate milkshake and she rolled her eyes. after she got our drink order she went back to retrieve our drinks she threw her tray. she wasn't very pleasant... after she came back with our drinks she took our order. shortly there after she was yelling at the cooks about an order and the cooks were yelling back at her... NOT VERY PROFESSIONAL ATALL!!! we waited for about 35 minutes to get our meal and i wasn't impressed what so ever with that either the fries were cold and my burger was burnt. i was very disappoint with the whole visit and will not ever return. i would just like to say that with the economy today if this persists IT WILL BE NO TIME AND BIG BOY IN SAINT IGNACE WILL BE OUT OF BUSINESS!!!!

Went to the Big Boy restaurant in Wayland Michigan, the amount of food i got was the WORST i'v ever seen. I order bisquits and gravy, i got 2 bisquits and 1 tablesppon of gravy over each one,and it was a SMALL tablespoon!!!! i order a whole order NOT a side order, i called Wayland Michigan Big Boy and told them, they told me " the manager said that's how they serve it now" i told them i was in there 2 days before and order the same thing and it was NOT like that, they said " the manager changed the amount of food on everything, he said people was saying they where too large amount of food" Hmm, i think the manager was lying, again GREEDY MANAGER!!!!! Oh plus i only got 2 bisqits not 3 like before, plus the price did NOT go down !!!!!!!!!!!! Sounds like Big Boys are getting greedy. I told them i will NOT be back. This was a carry out order on August 27 2011 time : around 10:30 - 11:00 A.M. I would rated this a zero but there is no zero. I will be calling your office Monday when your office is open.

My husband & I took my mom (85) and aunt (95) to the Big Boy on M-24 in Oxford, MI on Labor Day so they would have an outing. Should have stayed home!!!! Cold building and cold food.....wasted $$$$$$. We sent the cold food back and new fries came after other food was gone. They were so salty we still couldn't eat them. We complained but still paid full price. Waitress was a sweetie....not her fault.
Never again!!!

My wife & I are retired and participate in many restaurants, But I do have a gripe about Big Boy Gift Card, Gift Cards are suppose to be same as cash but if you have less than a dollar left on it, you can not redeem it. This is what management told me.Can you imagine how many cards out there that can Not be redeemed. My advice is not to get any gift cards from BIG BOY Restaurant as gifts.

We have recently visited one of your establishments just outside of Grand Rapids MI. on fathers day June 19th 2011. The conditions were terrible at best. We had ordered the salad bar to find out that it was lacking everything. I had informed or server Melisa who has a wonderful server to let someone no. This request was made again on two additional requests with no response. I have worked in customer more then twenty five years and never found anything so wrong as I have in this establishment. Upon leaving the cashier asked about our dinner which i responded was horrible just as I was about to pay there was a young man (Brandon Solnar} whos name we also received from our server. that stepped in and said he was the manager and apoligized for the salad bar and that the Disrict Manager had left earlier and let the individual that was to handle the salad bar go. Their is no excuse for this. I would like to see you as a Corp on Undercover Boss or maybe your employees should ban together and do one on your corporation either way their is some serious need of an overhaul.
I would accept a response but from what i've read I don't think it's likely i may be reached thru @ ibelieve1234@aol.com

Sincerely,

Debbie Smithy

We ordered hamburgers in the Morro Bay, CA store, which were cooked well done and came on dry buns. The waitress told us no sauce or mayo was put on the burgers so that people who didn't want it wouldn't have to ask. The hamburger had no flavor, and layed in our stomachs like stones for hours. We would have been better off going to McDonalds or Burger King down the road. I believe the burgers were served dry to save on food costs, as you will rarely find burgers served on a dry bun. That was our first & last visit, and we certainly will be sharing our experience with our friends.

I would like to use this site to express my complaint from last Thursday, June 16, 2011. A large group (15 -20) of ladies met at Bob's Big Boy in Burbank California last Thurs., June 16 around 5-6 p.m. to have dinner and discus/plan a retirement party. Our food was cold, a lot of the ladies had special orders which were not made correctly, we never received refills on our drinks and the SERVICE was worst than the food. We spent a lot of money (and in retrospect) and should have complain at the time. However, we were all tired and wanted to get home. The only reason I decided to write this letter is because....I visit Bob's quit often with my kids and granddaughter and did not want this experience to continue. Please call me to confirm receipt of this complaint and to discuss issue.

Thank you,

My husband and I eat at Fr.Big Boy about every couple of months ,when returning from the Veterans Hospital in Chilicothie, Ohio. This is one of the best restuarants we have eaten at in A very long time.Even with the fact that i cooked at Bob Evans. We give this big boy five stars and more. The food is not only good, the service is excellent, the people who work there are great. sincerly, Mrs. Stella OBryan Mason,Wv.

Stopped at the Big Boy on Middlebelt in Romulus and it is one of the dirtiest restaurants I have been in. The bathrooms are filthy and the floors sticky. Just not clean.

Houghton Lake, Judy 5/23/11
My daughter and I have been going to Big Boy forever. She loves the fish and chips and I love the Slim Jim. The last 2 times we went, we noticed the portions were smaller. The first time I let it slide thinking maybe it was a new cook. The second time, my daughter noticed that the actual plates were smaller! They used to serve both on platter types of dishes and now they are served on small plates. Not full sized plates. So the second time the manager comes over to ask how everything was and I said "Fine, other than the meal portions have been cut. Why is that?" He stood there like a deer caught in the headlights and said nothing. Finally he says "We decided the food portions were too large." I said, "Uh huh, but you decided the prices were good as they are huh?" My problem is that if you give me less food than I've been getting for as long as I've been a loyal customer but charge me the same price, I will not eat at Big Boy again. I'm sick and tired of the grocery store cutting sizes and raising prices but now our favorite - Big Boy. As we headed to the cash register. the manager was standing there and high-tailed it back to the kitchen when he saw me coming. I told the cashier why I had a problem and she asked if I wanted to talk to the manager. I told her he was hiding from me because I already told him. Honestly, it's not like I made a scene, I just asked him to his face a simple question. I didn't raise my voice. The wimpy manager didn't handle it well but it doesn't matter because we're sadly ending our Big Boy meals.

Mr. Scott 5/23/11
Greetings. On this past Saturday, June 21, 2011. My daughter and I visited your BIG BOY restaurant in Eastpointe, MI on Gratiot (near 9 mile Rd). I was very disappointed in the service their. We were escorted to our table with our menus, however, we waited a good 15-20 and absolutely NO ONE came to our table. No "someone will be with you shortly", no water, no nothing. We were completely ignored and I was very disappointed, so my daughter and I left. I WILL NOT give my money to an establishment the DOES NOT want it and who is going to COMPLETELY IGNORE me! Being in the customer service industry myself, this kind of treatment is UNACCEPTABLE. I have been to this location before, but this is the first time that I have received poor service!!! Hopefully service will improve, but I WILL NOT be returning!

Sincerely,

A VERY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER

My comments aren't a review but an outright complaint! My brother has worked for the Big Boy in Wayland, MI for over 4 years. My brother is learning disabled, has been all his life. He is limited to the types of work he can do so he has worked mainly as a dishwasher/ busser.
I have reason to believe that my brothers disabilities have lead him to be a victim of fraud as well as manipulation in his personal life by the general manager of Wayland Big Boy, Michelle Smith. There has been more than one occasion that my brother has worked 6 or 7 days a week because of employees quiting and the restaurant being short handed. Even though my brother was clocked in for more than 40 hours, he was paid the same rate of pay that he would have made at 32 hours a week. My sister inlaw has complained to me of this more than once over the years but was afraid to make an issue about it for fear that my brother would lose his job. It is hard for my brother to keep a job because of his disabilities. He has a hard time learning things quickly and doesn't work well at a fast pace. My brothers wife has to constantly advocate for him because of this too.
Over the last couple of months I have been even more appalled at the unprofessional nature of the actions of this general manager Michelle Smith! This woman has stumped so low as to start deliberately medling in my brothers personal life. I received a phone call from my sister in-law the second week of April. My brother was told by Michelle, that he should leave his wife for one of the waitresses at Big Boy, named Kayla, because Kayla would treat him better. Within a week of this, my brother, being the gullible simple man that he is, packed his stuff, moved in with Michelle Smith, her husband Nate, and their 4 kids. My brother has been with his wife for 11 years and has two kids of his own. He just picked up and left his family on a whim so he could explore the possiblity of a relationship with Kayla, with whom already has a boyfriend/ fiance, and two kids of her own that she doesn't even have custody of. Who does this? Do people really not have compassion anymore? Who deliberately manipulates a person into self destruction?
From what I have found out since these events started was that Michelle has had some medical issues with her back and feet. She is on reduced hours and has relied heavily on my brother for months to help her with the more physical aspects of her job as well as help her deal with being short handed on employees. However, Michelle hasn't been paying my brother for it. My brother moved in with this woman and her family under the agreement that he would pay her $400 a month yet he wouldn't have his own room. He would be sleeping in Michelle's youngest son's room while her son slept on the floor or elsewhere. Michelle is supposed to be going in for back surgery soon. My question and only logical assumption is that because of this, Michelle concocted this scheme to lure my brother into staying with her family, so that they could take advantage of my brother financially. Mark would pay the $400 a month which would pay their lot rent at Windsor Woods trailer park.
However, my brother would not have enough money once his wife filed for divorce to pay for anything. My brother doesn't make a fortune and doesn't even have enough common sense to take care of his own finances. His wife does the bills etc. There is no way that my brother even thought about alimony, child support, a lawyer, etc. Michelle and her husband didn't care as long as they got what they wanted. I'm not sure what Kayla was getting out of the deal but it didn't take much more than a week for her to figure out that mess that Michelle had caused or to see that my brother was not her ticket to a better life either. My brother would never be able to help Kayla get her own kids back once child support and alimony kicked in!
This was not the only problem that Michelle was causing either. Michelle was also giving my brother her prescription drugs so that he could have more energy at work without regard of the fact that he is already on his own prescriptions that could potentially be harmful. My brother had showed up at his own home to pick up more of his belongings on a couple of different occasions. My sister in law claimed to me that my brother appeared to be "ampted". His eyes looked like they were bulging out, his face was pale, and he was sweating. My sister in law told me that he was acting strange, like someone else. My brothers wife found out about the pills and filed a complaint with Wayland police because she found one that Michelle had given my brother at house after one of my brothers visits. She questioned my brother about where he got it and he admitted easily that Michelle had given it to him so he could stay awake at work.
I can't believe that the manager at an established nationwide restaurant chain such as Bob's Big Boy would do such things as this woman has! Why would someone allow her to manange a business when she is such a dispicable person and completely incapable of being professional?
My sister inlaw did indeed file for divorce. I served my brother the papers myself at Michelle Smiths residence. With no surprise, my brother and Kayla were sitting on the porch together when I walked up to serve him. I know he must have been surprise! It never occured to him that she would do this because he isn't capable of thinking along those lines. He never sees the whole picture. Your marriage and your children are nothing to take lightly. This is no joke! It was a few days after this that Michelle finally told my brother that he should just go home. Kayla decided to go home and work things out her boyfriend Brandon. My brother has been home ever since but not without issues. Kayla and Michelle wouldn't not quit medling, calling, and texting my brothers cell phone. They had to change the number. My brother and his wife decided that in order to fix their relationship that they needed to cut ties with these people. My brother had to quit his job. To this day my brother and his wife are struggling to repair their relationship and fix their family.
Someone needs to get rid of Michelle Smith, the general manager of Wayland, MI, Bob's Big Boy! I am afraid she is going to cause a huge scandal or run the place into the ground!

I'm writing to you concerning the Big Boy located at Hall Rd. and 20 mile rd. in Clinton Twp. MI. I have to let you know HOW AWFULL the food was. Not only was the food very tasteless and the oil tasted very old, we got sick from it when we got home.I put all of that aside but our experience when we were there is UNACCEPTABLE. I did speak to the manager about what we saw.......the cooks (3 of them)eating while cooking and also putting food on plates with NO GLOVES. I couldn't believe my eyes!! When I spoke to the manager about this he said " I wasn't this first but I WILL be the last." He will take care of it right away.....little did he know that he was the THIRD cook back there and I witnessed that HE witnessed all of that. He was back there cooking and seeing what they were doing the whole time but I didn't want to cause a scene knowing that I should have called him out first and foremost.I am so very, very upset about my whole experience there and I spent $40 there to feed my family dinner but did not actually enjoy anything.

South Haven, Michigan 4.16.2011 4/16/11
Today's date is Saturday, April 16th, 2011. My family and I went to the Big Boy Restaurant #375 261 73 Street South Haven, MI 269-639-9500 at 9:00 AM CST. To say I am dissapointed in the service and food is not enough. When we arrived the Shift Manager had a MAJOR ATTITUDE when we asked if we could be seated at a smaller booth. The both that she was trying to seat us in was for 6 and it was just 4 of us. While I know that most people wouldn't mind sitting at a bigger table my complaint is with her attitude. You would have thought that we were the worst people on earth. The Sift Manager Rolled her eyes and snatched up the menus. Ok, now were at our booth for 4...we place our order only for it to be wrong...and when the waitress realized it was wrong she said well, I didn't charge you for the orange juice since I charged you for a large chicken tender. The eggs looked horrible while my husband said they didn't taste bad. Our son requested the buffet...the grits were solid...the french toast burnt...our pancakes were dry. To add insult to injury we had to listen to our waitress talk for the last 10 mins of our meal about going to Menards selecting tile and also her conversation about someone she know who is driving without a drivers license.... come on now. We were ready to go and want to ask her for a take out container... she was so into her conversation that when she DID bring the container not looking she almost put the take out container in my husbands eye....So now that we have a 53 dollar breaksfast 1 kids meal, one buffet and two breaksfast we head to the cashier..only to be met by by the Shift Supervisor... she asked how was the meal or service when I told her it was TERRIBLE she again rolled her eyes. I promise you this... I WILL NEVER NEVER NEVER in my life go to a BIG BOY Restaurant AGAIN IN LIFE. Even if they offer me a free meal... Keep it... with the economy so bad not only do I expect good food I DEMAND GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE....DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT EAT AT THIS BIG BOY RESTAURANT....There are too many other restaurants that will serve good food and service with a smile not rolling of the eyes...

This place, Bob's Big Boy in Morro Bay, CA, needs MANAGEMENT involvement -FAST!

Dinner time found this place filthy with lunch food still being ground into the carpet from whatever shamefully small lunch crowd they may have had.

Seemed to have adequate amount of people getting paid for the place to have looked much better as there were only 3 tables with about 5 people total, but the staff seemed more interested in talking with each other than doing anything productive that may help this business survive.

Overheard some staff debating as to whether one customer could use one coupon for two people. It seems that someone is wasting their advertising dollars if they don't educate their help as to how to manage advertised specials. This coupon obviously brought these two people in, score one for effective advertising but I have to say that these customers weren't treated very well. If it were me, that would have signaled my last visit to MB Big Boy not matter what the advertised special was.

Matter of fact, this IS MY LAST VISIT.

Life is too short to waste on mediocre food, in dirty restaurants, with employee attitude problems.

Today we visited your Novi location, it was quite a disappointment! We have been loyal customers for decades and our visit today has us questioning if we will ever be back. We were over charged two times on the same bill, the manager was extremely rude when we brought it to his attention. However our biggest concern was food safety. Multiple items on the salad bar were expired! We were told that the brown cream of broccoli soup was fine. It was disgusting! The noodles on the salad bar were sour. If this meets your standards we will spend our money elsewhere. We frequent the Troy and West Branch locations often and have only good things to say. We always leave those locations with a smile on our faces not pain in our bellies!

This is a story about a Big Boy on Tiekin and Rochester Rd. in Rochester Hills. It's a story about a restaurant that opened and had great management the food was good and served in a timely manner.

All of sudden in the last month or so the food service went down hill. I use to eat there 2 or 3 times a week. It is now ended with tonight's meal with my family 4/7/11.

We waited for our food for 30 to 40 minutes when it arrived one of the meals was not
cooked properly and I sent it back and waited another 20 minutes. I wasn't the only table that had this problem people were complaining all around us and some refused to pay there bill it was awful.

When money is tight people will go out to eat but still try to get the best value for there money. This was a good restaurant.

Let me start by saying I enjoy your food everytime I go to your restuarant but at this location it was absolutley dreadful. We stopped in at the Monroe St. Bigboy in Monroe, Mi at approx 1 p.m on 4/3/2011 and the service was TERRIBLE! Granted they were swamped and their was only 2 waitresses but come on, the place is not that big and why would they only work 2 people on a SUNDAY right after church gets out? First we walked in behind about 6 people and the hostess/manager was shouting at the customers telling them to seat themselves, and then we were seated near the front were we should have recieved great service, right? NO! I went to the bathroom to examine the Breakfast buffet and i walk back to see the waitress/manager at our table asking me if it looks up to my standerds... RUDE! Then she walks away for a good 10 minutes so me and my wife figure, oh well we will get our own food at the buffet since we pretty much have no waitress. So we walk to the buffet and EVERYTHING IS ALMOST EMPTY???

We have gone to the Big Boy in Plainwell Mi for several years and do like the waitstaff but the restr. Is going downhill. the restrooms are dirty and the dining area is just filthy. The bottom of the seats show spilled food on the them and the floor under the table have crude in the corners
Several years ago a dead fly was found in one of our salads.
We would like to see this restr. Cleaned up. We wonder if the public are is dirty, what is the kitchen like

I went to the waterford big boy on M-59 was very diappointed in the up keep. The place smelled of mold and the windows were dirty, the plants were dead hanging over the tables. All in all in was in dire need of alot of clening and painting.

Three of us stopped in the Wayland Restaurant about 11:45 on Friday 3/18.2011.
I will never go that restaurant again. The waitress we had spilled coffee and never cleaned it. My Big Boy Bun was so hard, and I was so hungry, that I didn't send it back. I also asked our waitress for another napkin, in which I never got. I went up to
the register to pay and told the gal about the poor service. The manager came out and
I told her what happen, she told us that our waitress mentioned that she spilled the coffee and cleaned it. I also told her about the bun and asked if she could take something off
my bill. This manager had blood in her eyes and was very nasty. If the manager had only taken 50 cents off, would have been nice. My girlfriend couldn't believe how she acted. Of course we didn't leave our waitress a tip, because of her poor service

I was away for a short vacation out of the country, and came home very excited to get to Big Boy for breakfast since the breakfast menu over seas was less than appealing to me. However, I found Big Boy on Gull Road with no lights on, a stack of newspapers at the front door, no specials on the sign, and the doors locked! It looked completely abandoned. No 'closed for remodeling' sign or 'thank you for your business' or anything. What has happened to Big Boy on Gull Road in Kalamazoo Michigan?

Today I was at your Dearborn,MI store on Michigan Ave,and Miller Rd.I had a Big Boy Classic with onion rings, when the waitress brought it I thought nothing of it since this is what I usually order. While eating my Onion rings I bit into something hard and pointy which cut my gums also when I continued to retrieve this from my mouth I pulled out a triangular shaped object. The first thing I did was complain to the waitress she called the manager over and this is what he said "OH ITS' JUST HARDENED BATTER,IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME" He never apologized or offered to give me a discount. When I left the cashier even asked"WHAT DID HE SAY?"She said that was not the first complaint they have had with hardened batter.I am really upset over this because I am diabetic.I have two witnesses to this and the absolute "POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE THIS MANAGER PROVIDED".If you would like to contact me about this issue my email is tv63@hotmail.com I will certainly not be eating at any of your establishments again.

I attend Big Boy in Brookpark/W. 130th in the Cleveland area quite often. The management and servers are top notch and truly go above and beyond to make the customer have a great experience. I usually get Aly is my server. She is such a wonderful server, very energetic and really goes out of her way to make sure people will always be coming back for more. The entire staff is very friendly and responsive to all customer needs. The menu is very reasonable as far as pricing and very unique compared to other establishments in the area. The in-store look is always very clean and staffing are always working hard to keep the in/out side looking presentable and fresh during slow down times. This is truly a wonderful place that will keep me coming back for a very long time.

This the third time at the Big Rapids Big Boy that our order has been screwed up. This time, we ordered our food and 1/3 our food was missing. Appearently the help was too busy playing around to get the order right. I waited for our first food. When we made a stink, it took them only 10 minutes to bring the food out then it was under cooked. The manager asked if the food was alright, and we said no. Her reply was, do want us to make some more? Like we have all night to wait for proper food to be served.

Gayle Williams 12/20/10
Ordered Shrimp dinner and only ate 1 piece and told the waitress that it was terrible. She just said Big Boy is known for it's shrimp. I will never eat at the Novi Bog Boy again. I wanted her to take the shrimp back and take it off my bill.

I think Bob's Big Boy restaurants are the best. I am glad to see them come back. Please don't close down this time! The chili sauce you use on the chili spaghetti and chili cheese fries is the greatest. Here's a location tip: There is a closed down restaurant (Truly Yours) in Escondido (San Diego County in California) on east Valley Parkway that would make a great location for a Bob's Big Boy!

The treatment of the whole staff of Big Boy is unaceptable. I have never seen a more lazy manager then I have at Big Boys up north. The only time I seen the male manager when i was eating my meal was. When he came out to yell at is staff and make humf sounds on business and how he said he did not give a crap how food was coming out today. I have been a regular at this resturant for many years and every time they get a good manager that person is shipped out the door. The new gm of the store I attend is and very ignorant to customers and staff. He sees people at the door ignores them then yells at the servers door door. They are obviously busy doing many tasks at once. I cant even pay my bill at the cash register. I have been allowed and it takes forever. I felt so awful one day when overheard the manager yelling at the poor lady sever next time there will be a write up. I am a fellow business owner myself and in order to make a business run properly I learned take care of the people that take care of your customers dont yell belittle threathen and embarass them. Give them props and thank yous instead of putdowns. A happy worker makes the money roll round and round FOR MYSELF and the worker. A happy customer who receives good food service will return and return with family which leads to generation of business.Any WAY THE WONDERFUL GM LADY THAT HAD BEFORE WAS SHIPPED OUT AND replaced with an ignorant selfish gonna drive and has good workers out the door. Manager that is treats is staff I have seen like dirt. Like he is trying to bring back slavery in a twenty first century work place. Instead of helping when needed which is his job it was mine he yells and dictates orders. Telling his hardworking staff go down the street. Embarassing them on many occassions. This guy may have potential in a prision environment but ship him out before you lose any more of my favorite workers. The only reason I still come is for the friendly service food stinks managment stinks. I have even seen a slim jim served off the floor buy an eldery server maybe she was senile. Still this is unaceptable and she still works there. I have seen numerous workers cry on a daily basis.I even seen one morning a pregnant server real big get yelled at for sitting down and speaking to a customers. I love when my servers talk to me but they sem so busy lately with seating the door cleaning the store cashing out us customers among numerous duties I even see them filling the bar as management sits on there butts eating why their workers run aroung like chickens with there heads chopped. I understand the need to cut down labor to build profits for ones bussiness. But I always worked at my bussiness I did everything I could. The management at this place has gone down the tubes they are lazy and extremely cruel to their staff I am suprised no one has reported them to the labor board. If I had ever treated my workers like that I would have beena one man band. I do not see how those poor people deal with that abuse. But understandly with the economy people need to feed their families. From what Ive heard and seen I would not recommend anyone looking for a job to go there at all. This place really has me digusted with the treatment of the workers. Save your bussiness and replace the management or retrain them something actually just send them to a correctional facility I have references my brother in law is a detective I could put a good word in for them and they would defintley have a job . I hate to say it but even prisioners do not deserve them. one last thing profit starts from the bottom up treat workers good they are happy customers are happy they bring more customers who are happy who tell other people how great the bussiness is and it spreads all the way to the top busssiness goes up profit goes up atips go up bonuses go up the owners profit goes up everyone is happy. Simple knowledge simple tips made me who I am today a happy retired rich man.

My niece was hired at the new big boy in kentwood Michigan, She was a server for 10+years an is a fun, very sociable, beautiful and great with people She is raising three kids and also working another job but told me she loved the people and would quit her other job just to be a part of the team. Wellshe invited me and and I took her kids to the family night to try the food and she joined us after her shift. The food was raw and cold and the waitress was clueless to almost everything around her but we know it was training for the cooks and servers.she did not let me complaine,I would not have.My point Im trying to make is. she ended up quiting her other resteraunt job to stay at big boy. MONDAY they called her to say they did not need her. They did not even give her a reason which made her even more devastated, she is very upset and does not know what she did or did not do. She was afew days behind and she studied that menu every chance she got, she still has her other job also that only gives her 15 hours a week so in all she has two jobs, did have three.WOW now she only has one job. ALSO she spenther bill money to buy black DICKIE pants and new shoes which she could not afford and I ran her all over the night before so she could get these cloths and she still kept a positive attitude and bless her heart she said " well I want this job and their are 100 others they can hire if I dont do what I gotta do"" I was the one pised about your so called dress code which you should NOT make people buy all that stuff unless you know you wont be tossing them to the curb.DICKIES I never seen ANY of management with dickie brand. Well Im sorry for going on and on but this whole situation makes me matter than hel*. She is just so upset, quiting her 2nd job for big boy, spending money on cloths she DID not have money for, studying that menu every chance she got after working her other job, training with big boy and trying to take care of her kids and house is just making me want to cry. I think you all should be reembursing her the money but we know that wont happen.Well I think I will shut up now, I am glad I found this site cause I was gonna call the darn place up myself and give them a piece of my mind but she would not want me to have done that. She wont even call up there to express her hurt cause she actually thinks and hopes that maybe they will call her back when you all figure out you kept the wrong ones which I think you did, but its your business at jeoperdy just hope it stays in business cause it does have potential. Hey!! Maybe its the management you need to fire. They werent the friendiest either that night, they spent most of their time nit picking at all the employees.I think your management needs to look at little carefully at how they are running things. I know my niece, she is a darn good waitress, granted its been awhile since shes been in the business, but a week and she would of been running circles around you all. And I would bet my house on it. They really hurt her feelings and I hope she can be content with all this, she has been miserable and crying all day. It hurts a womens pride especailly when she was in the resteraunt business for so long to be told we dont need you. She would have given your business her all and that is a shame. You lost not only a good worker but a good person who would do anything for anyone. Sincerley, Melody Hansen, Grand Rapids, Michigan. 616-401-2324 or 616 457-6084

Dear Sir or Miss,

I was at your Big Boys restaurant on Hoover and tweleve mile rd yesterday Nov.9th about 4:12 p.m. I brought my two grandchildren one girl 6 yrs and one boy 2 and ahalf yrs. The waitress was fine but when I was eating my food I ordered the sandwich and soup meal...corned beef sandwich & cabbage soup. There was a short black hair on my plate. When the waitress asked if the food was fine: I almost told her about the hair but diden't want to ruin the kids meal or have the other customers hear about having a hair on my plate.
Then when I went to pay I wanted to tell the cashier about that but their were afew people around me so decided not to. Just did not feel right with everyone hearing what I was talking about and get bad vibes or and a bad name.

Thought you might need to know so the girls can watch how they serve their food. There were afew ladies with black short hair and some with medium length of hair.

The food was Great don't know if I would go back to that one maybe a different location.

I arranged a birthday lunch with my 4 sisters, neice, nephew, and brother-in-low at the Big Boys in Livonia at Newburg and six mile rd. I was so dissapointed. It took 45 minutes to recieve our order. Some ordered food was missing and after asking twice for we still didn't recieve it. Know one came around to refill our beverages. My fries were cold. My brother-in-law had to wolf down his sandwich because he had to leave five minutes after recieving his meal. The Waitress wanted to argue why food was missing. She insisted we had recieved it. I finally went and talked to the manager and explained the problem. The waitress next to him apologized and wanted to know if a piece of pumpkin pie would make it better. She had to be kidding. I have always enjoyed coming to this Big Boys in the past but this was not the first problem we have had there. I am soooo dissapointed because I have always liked Big Boys and especially there Slim Jims. This was supposed to be a special time with my sisters as they have an illness where time is short to spend with them. I don't think I will be back. On top of everything else I had to go ask for our bills.

Terrible service in ValleyView Bigboy went sun .,buffet was always empty and waited for ever for clean dishes. the servers were running around frantic and the poor excuse
for the manager was not at all in sight.our waitress told me she was probably outside
smoking or in the office with her cell phone which she always does I was told. they
said the supervisor was trying to get things together but things were to far gone.We
had a coupon for the bar at half off but still didnt get our money worth. I know we wont be back because things have be going down hill for many months and it is sad to
see this icon destroyed in such a short time

Jim "Favorite" of Hartland, Michigan 11/10/10
Nick Shieb, owner of the Hartland Big Boy in Hartland, Michigan will be going to prison one day soon, and the Hartland Big Boy will close. A year ago he went postal in front of 27 customers and all of his staff. He did a rant upon a 25 year customer for turning him in to Bob Liggitt (CEO of BB) at the Warren, Mich. office for fabricating lie, after lie, and ignoring bullying complaints about his head waitress, and for turning him in to the Atty. General of Mi for fraud. He also was upset that he was turned into the Mi. Health Dept. for allowing dogs to be fed under the Big Boy booths. Nick is a psychotic "Sicko" in dire need of professional mental help. He is deathly afraid of his oldest waitress/manager (Venom) who is also diagnosed as crazy. She is 72 years old and married to a kid 20 years younger. All the young waitresses at BB pay the price because she is insanely jealous of all of them. Every restaurant in Oakland and Livingston Counties have waitress employed with a horror story about their previous employment at Hartland Big Boy. Current employees will leave within' a couple of weeks. Nick is afraid to fire Venom because she is blackmailing him over a sexual incident she witnessed him performing on a farm animal (at his place) in the early 90's. She "unexpectedly " encountered him, "caught in the act". It is widely known in the Hartland area that he contributes $$$ to the Michigan Militia, and is active against Americans in the Arab Community of Dearborn, Mich.
He and Venom coerced a new, 38 year old , struggling waitress to file a false police report against "Favorite", to bar him from the Restaurant. He is a coward and lies to everyone and calls the Police on anyone who complains about BB or turns him in. He is crazy as a outhouse rat. Locals do not eat at the Hartland Big Boy.. Nick will soon be out of business, as 3 other Big Boys in the area have failed due to similar behavior. The next time he goes postal in public, he will probably do what he tried to do to me....he will kill someone as he displays his Hitler mannerisms. Stay away from the Hartland, Michigan Big Boy if you value your life.

Ralphie Ward 11/6/10
I have been going to a reasturant in Findlay OHIO on Broad Ave, called Ralphies, since it was called Big Boy. You do have a big problem with an Idiot that they call Monty. He should be fired. Dont care what he says about anything. Have put up with his very, very, bad additude for a very many number of years. Am very sick and feedup with it. The hundreds of dollars that I spend there, each month Big Boy, should take some kind of interest. For crying out loud. Lots of people come in that place and everyone is calleng me Ralphie, think that i am Ralphie. For years. I am conntacting you for this. If this corp. dont care, then dont contact me. I will do nothing, but call, contact, and stand at your sidewallk trying to keep any and everyone out. Slit tires protest anything Till this big corp does get rid of this Idiot, called monty (stupid idiot)!!!!!!

If I could give the restaurant no stars, I would. We don't eat out much because I have been unemployed for the past 3 years, but we have eaten at the Big Boy on Novi Road, between I96 & Grand River at 3 different times of the day over the past year and the story is the same: absolutely terrible! Always understaffed, always takes too long to get what you order, which is always standard "original" Big Boy fair. The staff are always dressed in filthy cloths. We ate there yesterday for the absolute last time. Once again, the french frys were terrible. We talked to the manager the previous time we had been in there and asked him about their cooking grease. My son cooks in another "chain" restaurant and they are required to change their fry grease quite frequently. Again, the frys were uneatable. They had a sheene to them, were soggy and smelled of old oil. I grew up where the high school hang out was the Big Boy at 8 mile & Evergreen Rd in Detroit. The food was awesome. Now I don't think there is even a restaurant there. I also within the past year ate at the Big Boy near Port Huron. Same story. Terrible service and food. We almost got up and left. It took about 30 min for them to bring food to 4 people. The place was nearly empty.
If this is the way you are going to continue to do business, you may as well close up shop. You can go to a Max & Erma's or Red Robin or Friday's and get more food for the same price with much higher quality and more pleasant staff and a cleaner restaurant. So sad.

Not worth it... 10/20/10
Bob's Big Boy Restaurant
8274 Sunland Boulevard
Sun Valley, California 91352
I ordered the *soup and salad bar*, cost $7.49. The salad was ok, but not worth that much because the soup, macaroni and cheese, and beef macaroni were all uneatable. The "soup" should have been called "salt". The macaroni and cheese and beef macaroni looked as if it was sitting in the bin for at least a week (the waitess oddly, agreed with me) so I orderd a quick bowl of chilli, cost $4.29 because my date was already eating and pushed her soup to the side as well. I walked out (food less than half eaten) and paid $35 plus tip, the only good thing about the meal was the beer...

Sick of It 10/11/10
Was at the Brookpark Big Boy this past weekend the Little Blonde waitress had a boy there screaming at her and instead of having a manager take care of it she was screaming Obsenitys at him as he at her! It was horrible, this is not the first time I have herd this little girl while at your restuaunt, it is suppose to be a family resturaunt, how can you allow this type of person to work at your establishment?

mb 10/7/10
I received coupons in the mail to buy a meal and receive TWO childrens meals free!!! When going to pay the bill, it was refused, as we only had one child. Why was this not indicated on the coupon? Also, we ASKED the WAITRESS AHEAD of time, and she GUARENTEED us that it was ok. wont go back there

stop whining 10/6/10
to all you whiners stop it. everyone knows if you complain you get something from a restaurant and big boy is the worst for doing this. its only food or service which
most of you i bet get treated at home and from family a lot worst. keep it up and there
wont be any big boy because they will all close. if you cant pay for a meal try
a homeless center!

Sad In Brookpark 9/26/10
You need to get an Undercover Boss at the Brookpark Store, the management is Horrible and the Food is awful!!!! what is going on there. and even if you tell manager they don't care, even if you have only took one bite and the grease is drippy off your food! Anonymous 5/23/10
Hello. Both of us work at Big Boy, on Zeeb Road in Ann Arbor, Michigan (Store #31). We would like to remain anonymous, but we have many things to address that are major problems at our store. Since the store has been reopened, the managers, who are in their early and late 20’s do not seem to have a clue on how to run the restaurant. Things are extremely unorganized, the work environment is stressful, and employees were not trained correctly. They continue working with horrible habits that aren’t being addressed by managers. The store in not clean and it’s impossible to run a smooth shift. We have had a total of three corporate supervisors come in and try to help “fix” and solve the problems at our store. We are making no profit. To this day, the store has not picked up in business. It wasn’t advertised for our reopening, customers coming in still think it is owned under the same management as before. We get an outstanding number of complaints about ticket times being too long, food proportions being too small, a limited menu, and servers that just don’t know what they are doing. Besides the normal server duties, we are responsible for: filling and maintaining the large salad bar, making desserts, seating the door, answering the phone, taking carry-outs, taking cash, and keeping up with our tables. This is impossible. Managers wonder why we get so many complaints. Many times we have no hostess, and the times we do have hostesses they are scheduled on a random evening when business is slow. Saturday nights we won’t have a hostess, and only one cook will be scheduled. There will be no bar attendant, and no person to do prep. Many employees have walked out due to the stressful conditions at work. Managers are constantly hiring, firing, and suspending employees. We are very understaffed and servers are worked over the amount that is healthy. Certain servers have worked double shifts for six days in a row. Without a break, or are scheduled closing shifts every single night of the week. Managers aren’t even required to work that much. Days that have been requested off months in advance are not being recognized. Servers and other employees who have school and other jobs are expected to work whatever hours are given to them. No questions asked. Everything is constantly changing. Nothing ever stays the same. Within the past few days our new supervisor brought up the idea of “server-banking.” I’m here to tell you that we already have problems with money. When the cash drawers are counted after each shift majority of the time we are short money. How would making servers in charge of money help fix this problem? Numerous servers on both shifts have decided that if this “server-banking” goes into effect that they will be looking for another job. No employee at this restaurant is being paid enough for all the work we are expected to do. We need help! We need Managers who know what they’re doing, more employees, and a better trained staff. I don’t know what will come from writing this letter, but these things needed to be brought to your attention.
Thank you for your time.

Unfortunately I was unable to find any site to CONTACT you when I tried to Google Big Boy, so I would like to use this site to forward a little complaint.

Although your new Big Boy in Rochester (corner of Tienken and Rochester Road) certainly deserves a good rating, I'm a little upset about the following : On television Big Boy has been advertising the "Blockbuster Breakfast" (from Monday through Friday) for $3.99. Well I went there last Friday and they do NOT participate in this special deal. Why advertise it on TV when some of your franchises don't participate in it ! To me this is FALSE advertisement !!

I used to go to this particular Big Boy a lot since it's well run, clean and the food is good, but when something like this happens, I stay away from these businesses that do not follow through on these advertisements. There are many more good restaurants here in the Rochester area I can frequent !

Should you try to get hold of me to explain, my phone number is (248) 656-2243 (days) and my e-mail address is apache@talkamerica.net.

Regards - Karin Sampson

On Monday, May 31, 2010 (Memorial Day), we went to Big Boy in South Haven, Michigan to order our usual $3.99 Blockbuster Breakfast (which is offered Monday thru Friday). We were informed because it was a holiday, this was not available. Nowhere on the menu did it state that this was not available. Is this your policy. Thank you.

We went to the Big Boy in Kalkaska, Mi on 6/1/2010 for lunch. We both ordered the battered and fried cod fillets an extra piece for both of us also. When we got our cod and onion rings we were still eating our salad. I looked at the cod and knew it was overcooked because it was VERY dark and there was a pool of something running out from under it. I placed my finger in it to see what it was and it was oil. A very large amount covered at least 3/4 of the platter! I brought this to the attention to the server and she just swapped out our plates. The onion rings were cold and the tarter sauce tasted like it was just mayonnaise. The fillets when broken into, would just run with oil. and better than 1/4 of the fillets were hard and not white and flaky like fish is supposed to be. Needless to say, we will NOT return to this restaurant. The meal cost us nearly $32.00 for 2 people and it was definitely NOT worth it!

I have been going to big boys since the 60's and have to say I am very disappointed with your current menu. What did you do with the Swiss Miss and the Branwny Lad??? The french fries are the worst things I ever tasted in my life......do us a favor in Michigan and don't mess with perfection.....the service is alway good @ the st.clair shores location but we don't visit the restaurant becasue of your "new" menu.......

Two Concerned Customers from Flint, MI 9/20/10
Dear Sir/Madame of Big Boy Restaurants,

My wife and I live in Flint and we had just been out shopping. We decided to stop into Big Boys in Clio, MI on the way back from Birch Run before we headed home. It was around supper time and we enjoyed our meal, until we started to hear a ruckus in what seems to be an office. There was a young lady, that may have been a manager or supervisor and a young man, who may have been an employee. The two were talking in the office. Then soon got so loud, that it startled us and others in the restaurant. One man yelled " Is anyone going to do something?" It looked as if it was getting out of hand! He had arms raised and woman just moved back as if she was worried of being attacked. He began to hit the wall with his fist I believe, since we couldn't see, but was able to hear a bag on the wall and arms flaring. We heard obscenities so loud that we could hear it from we were seated. We were closest to the front, in a booth. My wife was starting to get nervous. So we asked for our bill, paid and left! The waitress we had was very professional and apologized for all the commotion. There needs to be something done! I was worried about it getting out of hand and now a days, no one is safe! He was even screaming obscenities to the waitresses. I was not going to sit there and take it anymore. I and my wife always love to eat at your restaurant and is always a pleasant place to eat, but after this episode last Friday! We will take our business elsewhere. My wife said I should write this letter so something can be done. I just hope the young lady is okay?

Sincerely,

Couple from Flint, MI

I have been to the brookpark big boy and on one visit, the the ladie cook would not give the girl our food, we heard your (the server ask very nicely} she let the cook know it had been a half hour and it was! And instead of the ladie saying ok, it will be right up she said maybe it will be another half hour, then the little girl just walked to us with tears and said I'm sorry! We waited and when she went outside she was crying and said I do everygthing I can, I have a little guy and we told her she did nothing wrong it was the cook. Then tonight we tried it again and the boy as we left said this ladies name was Jen, and she was very rude and telling off loudly two servers and another server was standing there saying yeh! Do you not have any tact "Jen" your not much of a manager if you have to belittle your employees in front of your resturaunt guests! You need to find a new profession! I quit going to the one in Valley View because of You, now I see you here!

My husband and I have eaten at the Big Boy Restaurant in Jackson Michigan numerous times, but after our last visit on 6/8/2010, I am sure we will never dine there again. We entered the restaurant at 5:45 pm and the restaurant was quite empty which my husband and I thought was a good sign. My husband ordered the soup/salad bar and I ordered a breakfast meal with eggs, juice, potatoes, sausage, etc. First of all, we noticed that the restaurant was very dirty. Food all over the floors, and the salad bar was a mess. The soups were dried up and many items were missing from the bar. We ordered our meals at 6:00pm and my husband had to wait for the waitress to return to our table 15 minutes later at which time he had to ask for silverware and napkins. The waitress just laughed and returned with his silverware. I don't think it is kind to pick the waitress apart, but her uniform was filthy, he hair was greasy and very unkempt, and she only had a couple of teeth with many others rotted in her mouth. Her appearance was very unappetizing to both my husband and myself. The waitress did come back to the table once or twice asking my husband if he needed anything else, however, I still hadn't received my meal. Her reply, "it will be just a couple of more minutes..." At 6:45pm, 45 minutes later, I told her to please bring our bill and cancel my order. Her reply "You don't want to eat? It should only be a couple more minutes." I told her no thank you, and that I didn't feel it was reasonable to wait 45 minutes for a couple of eggs and to just bring our bill. About 5 minutes later, the Manager(I assume, as she did not identify herself) came to the table and rambled something about my order getting lost due to some tape running out. It seems to me that during that 45 minutes SOMEBODY would have realized there was a problem with the order. She then told me if I wanted to wait a little longer, she would make sure the cooks would prepare my meal. Again, I told her no thanks, and we left. What a fiasco. The reason I am informing you of this is because, if this type of service continues, you will lose more than just our business. Hopefully you will be able to to correct these numerous issues and the Jackson Big Boy will be a favorable restaurant again. Please feel free to contact me if you wish.
Thank you for letting me vent.
Sincerely,
Monica Booth

Recently visited the Big Boy on the corner of Sprinkle and Gull Road in Kalamazoo, Mi. I believe it is Bobs Big Boy. While having lunch I overheard the manager tell my wiatress to clock out. It was 3:30PM. She replied that she was scheduled until 4:00PM and she still had a fairly new customer at a table. He did not care and told her to do what he told her to do. Since when do we work for an employer for free? I don't care if she does only make a couple bucks an hour. To single moms with kids two bucks is two bucks! And on top of that I was told from an ex-employee from there and had a employee confirm that.....if a Manager helps out with a table because he feels she needs the help that the Manager makes the waitresses split the tip! This is just wrong!!!! Waitresses do not make Manager Salarys!
Looking at these testimonials I would say you need to start sending out Corporate to these Franchises and make sure they are applying to your Franchise rules. Needless to say I left without keeping my mouth shut and gave a piece of my mind. If I were that waitress as I told her...you could make more money on down the road at McDonalds and even get help to go back to school. What does this Big Boy have to offer you other than headaches!

I hope this is looked into.

We have been going to Big Boy for over 30 years. However, there are fewer and fewer ones around. We therefore have been going to their restaurant less and less. Recently at the Arts, Beats, and Eats celebration in Royal Oak, we were given coupons to come on in a get some goodies. We foolishly went back and guess what the restaurant said that they did not honor the coupons. I asked why. The manager said that it was corporate coupons and they were a franchise.
When Rams Horn puts out corporate coupons, all of their restaurants honor them. When Pizza Hut and iHop does it we have NO problems. But Big Boy must be special. Well, we won't be looking for these SPECIAL restaurants any more.

My rating for the Ann Arbor - Zeeb Road #31, would be a -5 because of the recent visit my husband and myself experienced there. We were frequent visitors under the Berry ownership, we went mainly because of the friendlyness of the staff and they knew want we liked and how we liked our food prepared. We went for breakfast and I had to send my food back 4 times before I finally gave up and ate the food, not prepared the way I like them. We were never approached by a manager to see to the problems we were have. I never saw a manager during our whole visit. We have tried to give them a chance with everything that has gone wrong the the business at Zeeb Road, but that will be the last time we will go there for any meal.

Big Boy hates people trying to lose weight...........
This morning, as we have done at least 5 times a month in the past. My two little girls and I had the breakfast bar, my wife did not eat as she has had bypass surgery and she carries a medical alert card that directs her under medical supervision to only receive less then a child's portion of food. Consequently Big Boy Corporation has a policy of not accepting this. All we asked for was 3 kids meals and my full price breakfast buffet and after calling the manager at home and when the girls and i where done. They finely told us that they do not care about this and my wife did not eat. This really upset me as my wife has lost allot of weight and really needs all the nourishment she can get. This morning she had to embark on a full days work with no breakfast because Corporate does not care about customer satisfaction.

The Big Boy store that we go to is located in. St. Johns Michigan I was not sure if corporate would let me tell you where we had such a bad experience. but if you would like to discuss this more call 517-989-2880 Dave
Thank you

I don't go "out" to eat often but, it's my birthday this week and yesterday (June 13, 2010) I chose Big Boy for my Birthday meal (Big Boy on Pearl Street in Grand Rapids, MI).
They weren't busy and I was looking forward to my favorite meal there (Multi-grain pancakes).
My friends side salad arrived first...very hard bitter chunks of lettuce, one pink and hard tomato slice and a discolored cucumber slice. The blue cheese dressing was fabulous (cause they had nothing to do with it). The waitress came to the table to see how the meal was and she was told the salad was awful...her reply..."yah, the side salads are sad, I'll take that away for you."
My pancakes arrived very dark brown with a slight taste of burn and a beautiful golden brown on the other. Generally, strawberries and blueberries were sprinkles across the top of them but, not today. Today, there was a total of two strawberries cut in half and a small cup on the side with about 8 blueberries in it.
My friend ordered a Slim Jim (we always order the same things at this Big Boy because they've always been fabulous). Her sandwich arrived as my pancakes did, way over done. The French Fries were dark brown.
The waitress came back to the table and since most of the food was still sitting on the table (we picked at it a bit but, wouldn't eat it) she asked if we were finished. We told her that all the food was over done and couldn't be eaten. She replied, "I could bring you some more fries." Shocked by that reply we said "no, we're done."
She politely said, "ok, I'll be right back with your check."
What has happened to good food and customer service?
well, I've got another year to find a new restaurant out there for my Birthday meal.
The Big Boy Era has ended; I won't be back and neither will anyone that I know.

This is regard to the Big Boy on Rochester Road. Most of the servers are ok, but the management is horrible. They look like kids. They are never out on the floor when needed. There is no one out front to help. THis is a busy store at time and I am appalled at the way it is run. The management seems to care more about the back of the house than the front.
I worked at Big Boy's for many years and had wonderful management. What happened?
I used to go to the Royal Oak Big Boy in high school (cruising and eating). And the manager was always out front.
I am so terribly disappointed.

To whom it may concern: I personally believe that the closing of the 9 Mile and Jefferson Big Boy location was a travesty because you had one of the best stores around for training and community gathering place and it was destroyed due to the lack of compentant leadership and knowledgeable staff. After several leadership changes and some staff replacements over a period of time still caused the decline of the loyalty and confidence of this community. It was recently reported in the Macomb Daily that the reason for the store closure was due to the fact of a rental dispute on the property on which the store was located. This infact is a perveracation of the truth. The employees' were lied to and forced to seek life elsewhere and in this economy that in it self is a travesty. How do you expect to get away with this crime? I believe the employees' should engage in a class action lawsuit against Big Boy Restaurant International LLC. How do you expect the public to trust you again? In this day and age word of mouth makes or breaks businesses'

Hate your new commercials! I won't eat at a Big Boy because of these stupid commercials!

Disappointed Customers in AnnArbor 6/25/10
What has happened to Big Boy? I've grown up with this restuarant and I have to say I've finally thrown in the towel. The lastest (and I keep giving them-store #31 at Zeeb and I-94 a second and third chance)disaster took place last night 6/24/10 when after a long and tiring day I went with a friend for a Big Boy combination and they ordered fish and chips.
The fish and chips was 2 pieces of dark brown fish, no fries. When asked about the fries, she said "you didn't ask for fries"...I guess the definition of fish and chips has changed! The Big Boy combo came as a sandwich on a plate, no fries...again the very young staff said "you didn't ask for fries"! I tried to explain to both the staff and manager who were both clueless over my complaint. Good grief, who has the energy to teach the staff what their own menu says?On a previous Friday visit I had a staff "inform" me with a very snippy attitude that they don't have a seafood bar they have a "fish bar"-OMG! My multiple trips and attempts at a quiet meal are often interrupted by managers yelling and screaming at employees in front of customers or so loud from the back grill that the whole place can hear every word, it bordered on abusive and I can't imagine why any young person would subject themselves to it and why a company would have this type of individual in a management role. So, the towel is in, no more Big Boy after 48 years...sad but true.
This was a great restaurant before corporate took charge... now no one wants to eat there.

Hello,

On June 14th, I went to the Big Boy on the corner of US 23 and Plymouth Road only to find out that the Swiss Miss and the Brawny Lad were removed from the menu. Now, with that being said, I was able to get a Swiss Miss by asking the waitress, but why, why, would you do a thing like this unless you really want to go out of business--and quickly. The economy is bad enough. This is not a time to be removing your best staple products off the menu. It is like a self fulfilling prophecy to remove these items and to start to go out of business. I will NOT return to Big Boy if these items are no longer available. They are the ONLY reason I keep coming back. Also, I have been complaining about the fries for months now and the local Ansara Big Boy in Livonia claims that the new fries are more expensive!?!? Bring back the cheaper and better fries. Also, the meat patties at all 3 local Ansara Big Boys (Livonia, Novi, Westland) have gotten much smaller. Keep this up and I won't be going back and neither will my friends that join me there.

dosen't matter 8/18/10
Here's an idea, start treating your employees like they're the ones who make your business successful. I know a pay raise is unheard of but a simple "good job" or "thank you" goes a long way. This place is what enables people to feed their families and pay their bills. Quit with the threats and sudden rule changes already, it's getting old. Lead by example and start holding yourself accountable for the problems with Big Boy.

LZavala 8/20/10
I am writing about the Bob's Big Boy in Calimesa, CA. This is not a complaint about your food. It's about uncompassionate behavior! My 11 year old granddaughter walked to your restaurant after school 2 days ago, and was to wait for her mother at your restaurant after school at 3p.m. My granddaughter asked for a cup of water, and was refused!! It was 100+ degrees and none of the employees could find it in their hearts to give this little girl a drink? ...of water???? You told her it would cost her 25cents! She didn't have it! I hope your kids never have to ask for a drink of water and get refused! Would it have killed you heartless people to give this little girl a small drink of water? I would have given you the 25 cents the next day. Come on people, have a heart! Don't we have any compassion anymore? What's wrong with you heartless people? ...you aren't that unhappy working there, are you? thank you (for nothing)

I recently visited your Granger road location in the evening. Was not very busy there.I soon found out why.
After waiting what seemed like a lifetime i was approached by a waitress whom was very nice and apologetic. She took our order and got our drinks and salad. A while later she again approached us and told us there was a problem in the kitchen. She really did not say what the problem was but we did notice the manager sitting in the dining room. the waitress told us that recently they changed alot of managers and hired in alot of young ones that really did not know what they were doing. The store really did seem very disorganized. We always visited several Big Boys in the area and were always happy with the service and food. But now there are only two left in ohio. I had heard the upper management of the company was getting rid of the experience managers and hiring in new ones. Obviously this is true from our experience. I think it is pretty sad that big boys is going by the wayside. I grew up with them. But i guess the company officials do not realize what they have until its gone. Oh by the way we never did get our food and we left hungry and the manager was still sitting there when we left.
Definately will not visit a Big Boy again.

We went to the Bob's Big Boy restaurant in Clevelnd, Ohio recently. We used to have one in my hometown, but it closed many years ago, so this was a real treat I ordered the Bob's Big Boy combo, which was on sale, and it was the best meal I had on my vacation! When I came home, I went to the website to search for other locations, but alas none are near me, so I have to wait until we go to Orlando at Christmas My mouth is already watering.

what is going on with big boy in valleyview. we go 4-5 times a week and they are always out of food and i mean important items like onion rings fries icecream
bread ect. the servers tell me its because they have no manager and the two asst
managers argue all the time about whom will do what. most of the time all we see the managers do is be in the office. the service has gotten slow and the food takes forever to get from the kitchen. also the conversations in the servers work area are loud and not very lady like. we sometimes go to brookpark to eat which is very
good and we know the manager from when he worked here and things are always good and he will stop and say hello but is to far to go all the time. we hope things get better because we like to have our meals there and see our friends that visit but some have stopped coming as often.

Hi I am from Florida and my first time eating at a Big Boys was needless to say disappointing. Food was amazing but it was the service that was not right. I ordered the original double decker big boy combination with the salad bar. That was the warmest coleslaw I have ever had in my life. My waitress, Helda, was very rude to me. The chairs were dirty and disgusting, flies were swarming around my food, the place smelled like a dirty old mop. I will not be returning.

Anna 6/29/10
We stopped at a Frish's Big Boy in Kentucky while on a road trip a couple of days ago. We live in Michigan where Big Boy is Elisha Brothers. I thought despite the name difference all Big Boys offered the same dishes. Apparently not. I ordered a Big Boy sandwich, expecting to get the same thing I get in Michigan - a double decker hamburger with Big Boy sauce (similar to Thousand Island dressing). I got a double decker hamburger with tartar sauce! (eewww!) When I mentioned it to the waitress, she said that's what their Big Boy sauce is there. What gives? Big Boy sauce on a Big Boy sandwich is what you're famous for - not tartar sauce! I was so disappointed, I didn't even order desert!

In regards to the comment from annoyamous who works at a Big Boys in Ann Arbor. Let me tell you it is not just your Big Boys that treats their employees like that. The Big Boys at 9 mile and Jefferson just closed and we also were treated like slaves before it closed. We were expected to wait on tables, greet, cashier, handle carry outs, bus our tables, dishwash, set up and maintain the salad bar and even cook when necessary. Oh and don't forget getting on our hands and knees to scrub walls. All for 2.65 an hour. They promised those of us that stayed until they closed that they would give us our full vacation pay but as usual they aren't. Dont ever deal with Debra Murphy this thing in human resources who would lie through her teeth to save a buck. This is what Big Boys has become the almighty doller is all that matters to them and as far as a class action suit I would encourage any server who is forced to do a job other then their own and still only get paid 2.65 an hour to respond to this. Things are in progress to let Big Boys know that their company is a joke to work for and to eat at and if anyone would like an inside scoop about the COMPLETELY LACK OF HEALTH DEPARTMENT POLICIES at Big Boys I would gladly let you know. To all customers if your smart don't eat at a Big Boys if you don't want to get sick and to all potential employees you can be slaves for a lot less at a different restaurant.

I was at the big boy at novi rd on 6 /30 of 2010 and the restaurant was just gros the food was kind of burnt the bathroom was nasty my waitress was rude and I will never return to that restaurant again the manager was yelling at the cook in the window I don't know what big boys is coming down to but some changes need to be made if you want your bussiness to continue I hope you take this into consideration honestly thank you

I was in the novi big boy on novi road on 7/1/10. The salad bar was nasty, it had flys flying around it. The potatoe salad was sour and so was the pasta salad, the beats were slimie. The omelet I got was cold, the toast was burnt, and my hash browns weren't done. My waitress was stuck up and the rest of the wait staff were talking loud. The manager was no where to be found. I payed for my meal and left, I don't think I will ever return to that resturant and I frequent that area a lot.

We stopped at Big Rapids Big Boy on July 5th, 2010. We got there about 1040am. We were seated (4 adults) and ordered our drinks and waited for the return of our waiter. After several minutes we just went up to the buffett which was suppose to be going until 1100 am as advertised by the sign out front. The scrambled eggs was almost empty, the hash browns was empty along with the french toast sausage gravy and the fruit. After returning to our seats our drinks were brought but still had to wait for silverware to be delivered. Upon returning to the buffett even more items were emptied and nothing had been refilled. My wife cornered a waiter/waitress and asked if they were refilling the buffett. the waiter/waitress said tell me what you want and we'll fill it. They came back later with hashbrowns that maybe 2 people would eat, forget about the other 6 people who were in line. While waiting in line at the buffett an older couple stopped a passing waiter and said "we ordered our meal 40 minutes ago where is it?" Four adults sat near us, 2 ordered the buffett and asked when it was going to be refilled, the other 2 ordered from the menu they got there food 30 minates later. Just prior to us leaving another couple came in and sat behind us, after they walked up and checked the buffett, they ordered the buffett, and asked would it be quicker to order from the menu or wait for the buffett to refilled? the waiter said oh it'll be the same about 10 minates. We asked for our bill twice and still waited at the cah register for 6-7 minates. My wife told the person at the cash register the womens bathroom had no tiolet paper or paper towel and was a mess. We eat often at the Big Boy at Clare and St Johns where we live the later not even in the same book as Big RapidsI've told several family and friends from Big Rapids to spread the word and not go there. Basically The Big Boy in Big Rapids SUCKS!

Oh boy I didn't know I was the only one who thinks that Big Boys is a horrible horrible restaruant. I went to the 9 mile and Jefferson Big Boys and let me tell you I'm glad it closed. The servers were wonderful considering I they were doing everything! We waited 40 minutes for our food but was told by out waitress that they were short handed becausse of the closing. Why did they even stay open if they didn't have the staff? Oh yeah they wanted our money no matter if it was a horrible experience and these poor girls were sticking it out for what devotion or because they were promised something. Girls if you were smart you would have walked out like the rest did. The people higher up don't care about you they only care about money. They should have gotten rid of the people higher up when the place went bankrupt the first time because the people there now are pathetic igonorant and sleezy people who dont give a s___ about any body but there own pockets. You better beleive I have contacted department of labor about this. Big Boy really SUCKS!!!

Candice Tjeilslii 7/6/10
Thanks for the info anonymous about Big Boys. I have noticed a big difference in the way the restaurant is being run and I would like to know about the safety issues you are referring to. I am with the health department and I am curious what this is about. Please send me your e-mail because I want to look into this. My family stopped going into Big Boys because of the way the employees were treated. We may as well be back to living in the slave days. Now it is true that people could have quit if they didn't want to be treated like that but it is also ludicrious that a company thinks they can treat their employees like that because of our economy. Oh, I am also checking into the name you mentioned because this is not the first time I heard her name. Let's just see what we can find out about this thing. Please contact me!!!!

I am writing in regards to the Saint Agnace Big Boy. My husband and I travel from Iron Mountain down to Saginaw once a month. I stopped in this morning for breakfast, and i just want to say i WILL NEVER RETURN! I walked away with a very unsettling feeling. I witnessed a waitress being verbally attacked, and was left absolutely appalled. I don't know where people get off thinking that because your a "supervisor or a crew leader" that they can talk to people anyway they choose. I tried to speak with the waitress as she is in tears and all she could say is "she had kids to support"!!! If Big Boy Restaurants are o.k. with this then there is really something wrong! I asked her if i could talk to her supervisor and she informed me he was the "manager". I was speechless. I would just like to know what it takes to be a manager at these restaurants? I am sure that this isn't in any of the training, and it's NOT O.K.!! I asked her for a phone number to lodge this complaint and they are not even able to provide a customer with a phone number to your corporate office... What is wrong with this picture? I would like to know...

Several co-workers and I frequently eat lunch at the BB location at 2555 Grodan Dr., Southfield, MI 48033 (248) 358-1481. I write to complain about a specific incident that occurred at lunch today (July 14, 2010) at this location.
We went to this location today for the express purpose of enjoying the "soup and salad bar" because Wednesday is the day when the "chicken tortilla soup" is served. After ordering, I went to try to soup anddiscovered that the pot of chicken tortilla soup had been mixed with some kind of bean soup. When I asked the waitress about it, she called her boss (male, no name tag) who told me that he would make me a bowl of it from the kitchen. He did so and brought it to me in about 10 minutes. I immediately asked the waitress for another bowl of it, and she conveyaed this to the manager. He said that it would take maybe 15 more minutes because he had to bring the entire pot to the right temperature. [This made no sense to me, in light of the fact that he had brought an initial bowl within 10 minutes). I waited another 20 minutes, and ordered a side order of onion rings, while I waited for the soup.
Finally, I could wait no longer (had to return to work), so I asked for my bill and asked if I could get some of the soup to go. The manager refused to let me take any soup with me -- saying that I could stay there and eat some (which I couldn't do because of work). He refused to give me any kind of discount at all -- charged me $6.99 for the soup and salad bowl (of which I had only one bowl of soup, and 6-7 slices or radish), and $3.89 for the side order of onion rings. I believe that the manager could have been much more accomodating, since he did not have the soup I wanted, despite the fact that the salad bar sign said that it did. I couldn't believe that he charged me full price for such a sub-standard experience. If anyone with BB is interested in rectifying this situation, my phone number is 248.505.5548. I would like a coupon or something for a soup and salad bar, because what I got today was not acceptable. Otherwise, neither I nor my two office mates will be returning to this location. Thank you.

Terry Osgood 7/14/10
I am PLEASED to report that I was promptly called by the manager of this location herself, who explained that a personal emergency called her away, and the action that I complained about today on line was taken by someone other than the manager. My problem has been resolved satisfactorily within hours of this posting. Thank you for the prompt resolution. That restores my faith in your franchise, and in the need to speak promptly and honestly when the situation calls for it.

This is regarding the Big Boy on Zeeb. I just wanted to say that I think the servers, cooks, managers, and all other staff are doing a great job with the restraunt, despite all the critism they may get. They all work very hard and they are doing a nice job turning the place around.
